Manometric Studies of the Pressure-volume Relationship in Living and Enucleated Eyes of Individual Human Subjects.

چکیده
IN a previous investigation a significant difference was found in the pressure response of the living and dead eyes of individual rabbits when a given volume of fluid was injected into the eye (Eisenlohr and Langham, 1962). An increase in the intra-ocular pressure of living animals was found to force blood from the eye and the amount lost per unit pressure increase was found to reach a maximum as the pressure approached the arterial blood pressure. The observations were made by recording manometrically the response of the intra-ocular pressure either to a sudden injection of a predetermined volume of fluid given in ascending and descending pressure steps or to a continuous infusion of saline at a rate greatly exceeding the outflow of aqueous humour. The latter method gave a continuous function of the pressure response of the eye and had the merit that observations over a wide range of pressures could be completed within 10 to 15 seconds. It is the purpose of this study to apply these techniques to the living and freshly enucleated eyes of individual subjects to determine whether vascular changes within the human eye significantly modify its pressure-volume relationship. Since this work was begun, Ytteborg (1960a,b) has investigated this problem in a somewhat different manner. The results and conclusions to be reported in this paper agree in some but not in all respects with those of Ytteborg, and the reasons for the differences are discussed.

A manometric study of the rate of fall of the intraocular pressure in the living and dead eyes of human subjects.
The relationship between the rate of flow of the aqueous humor and the intraocular pressure in living and dead human eyes has been studied by two manometric techniques. The first comprised, a record of the pressure decay curve and a separate determination of the pressurevolume relationship for the same eye. The pressure-flow relationship was then calculated, from the rate of pressure change and...
متن کاملDynamic contour tonometry: a comparative study on human cadaver eyes.
OBJECTIVE To compare intraocular pressure measurements obtained by recently introduced dynamic contour tonometry (DCT), Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT), pneumatonometry (PTG), and intracameral manometry in human cadaver eyes. METHODS Sixteen freshly enucleated human cadaver eyes were deepithelialized and dehydrated with dextran. A tube was placed in the anterior chamber and connected to ...
متن کاملDistensibility of the human eye.
TiE relationship between changes in pressure and changes in volume within the eye is of practical importance in the calibration of tonometers and in tonographic calculations, and the coefficient of ocular rigidity, K, proposed by Friedenwald (1937) has been employed generally for these purposes. Contrary to Friedenwald's assertion, it has been found that this coefficient is not a constant, but ...

In this paper, the writers try to compare two authors, the Iranian leftist, Bozorg Alavi (1904-1997) and the Polish Joseph Conrad (1857-1924). Although these two writers have different attitudes to Socialism and the question of revolution, both share Romantic idealism and a tragic sense of personal and social life. Moreover, they both are precursors of modernist novel in their countries, and sh...
